The traditional design process is outdated — AI demands flexibility over rigid methodology¶
Insight: Jenny Wen (Design Lead at Anthropic, former Director of Design at Figma) argues that the traditional design process is outdated. With AI accelerating prototyping, smaller teams doing more, and craft becoming a key differentiator, rigid processes are failing designers. Great work today comes from quickly trying and discarding solutions, iterating on details, building intuition, and designing for delight — not from following formal processes with personas and problem statements. Many formal design artifacts (personas, problem statements) originated from consultancy workflows that don't fit in-house product teams.
